Kathmandu Coast to Coast

Kathmandu Coast to Coast
Kumara Junction to Brighton Beach, Christchurch:
Friday 10th - Saturday 11th February 2017

The Kathmandu Coast to Coast is a world famous iconic endurance event that crosses New Zealand's South Island over two days. It is utterly unique and considered a ‘rite of passage’ for many active New Zealanders and athletes from overseas.

Kathmandu Coast to Coast Start

The event starts on the West Coast at Kumara Beach in Kumara Junction. The route then ascends the Southern Alps spectacularly before descending down the crystal clear Waimakariri River. The course eventually winds up on Brighton Beach, Christchurch, where you can slump on the sands, exhausted and exhilarated.

The two day race is the heart of the event, with the variety of formats making it highly achievable. You can race as an individual or as a team that takes turns to tackle the cycling, running and kayaking legs.

The two day event attracts a number of corporate teams keen on developing team building efforts away from the office and school teams, keen on sharing the experience of goal setting and training. The two and three person team’s element provides a relaxed fun way to enjoy the event that also offers work colleagues, friends and family the chance to get involved as part of the support crew.

For keen runners wanting to get a taste of the event there is the option to just do the 30.5 kilometre mountain run on the first day of the two day event.

There is no doubt the event can be a life changing experience, from the training and participation and potential to lead a fitter, heathier life, through to making new friends and the satisfaction of achievement.

Kathmandu Coast to Coast Start

The two day event can be a stepping stone to competing in the one day event, billed as the ‘World Championship longest day’ that gives competitors the chance to race alongside many of the world’s best professional multisport athletes.

Competitors encounter multiple river crossings and an elevation gain of nearly 800 metres on their run over Goat Pass while the kayak leg down the Waimakariri River has 67 kilometres of braids and a stunning gorge, offering both, highlights and often the defining moments, of the race.
