Picton Maritime Festival
Picton Foreshore: Saturday 21 January 2017 11:00am - 11:00pm
Find time and spend a day eating, listening to music and chilling out with your family and friends at the Picton Maritime Festival on the Picton Foreshore.
Ranging from market stalls and food trucks to live music and carnival games, the Picton Maritime Festival has something to offer for the whole family. There will be live entertainment throughout the day, including the mighty seven piece band HALO, and Levity Beet, a master of unique and creative family music.
There are plenty of water activities and boat races taking place all day, including a free entry Raft Race with loads of prizes up for grabs - just bring three friends and your own life jacket! After the Raft Race or if racing isn't your thing, you can learn how to row a Dory boat - a traditional fishing boat - and ride the beautiful Clinker and Classics boats which will be giving free rides around the harbour.
To keep the little ones entertained, the Conservation Kids have organised Treasure Island, an area where toddlers and primary school children can enjoy free of charge face painting, a bouncy castle, magnificent balloon creators and other games suitable for children (some include a small fee). Local pirate Captain Festus McBoyle will also be stomping around, entertaining the kids with his quirky songs and performances.
Make sure to hang around until 10pm and be mesmerized by the amazing Fireworks Extravaganza display.
This event is organized by talented and dedicated volunteers and has been running for 11 years, with 2017 bringing its 12th year. Come along to the Picton Foreshore this January to celebrate and enjoy all that the beautiful Picton has to offer.
Taking place just metres from the Interislander terminal, the Picton Maritime Festival makes a perfect day out for Wellingtonian families as well as those in Marlborough. Don't let the Cook Strait hold you back, just venture across to Picton on Interislander to a festival packed with fun for the whole family.
