Baggage

When travelling on foot, you'll need to ensure your luggage fits within our baggage allowances. Reading our policies before arriving will help ensure you sail through Check-In. There is, of course, no limit on the luggage you can carry in your vehicle!

Luggage allowances

Carry on: One small bag and one handbag or laptop bag.

Check-in: Two items of check-in luggage per person.

Size limits: 23kg / 200 linear centimetres per bag.

Excess luggage: $20 per item.

Sporting equipment: $20 per item.

Bicycles: $20 per bike.

We only carry personal luggage and sporting equipment. You must contact a courier service if you need to transport household goods, machinery, or transport items unattended. We also do not offer an unaccompanied vehicle service.

Check-in items

All large bags and suitcases must be checked in, this includes wheeled cabin bags and backpacks.

You may check in two bags as standard. Additional bags can be added at $20 per item (see below).

Check-in luggage limits are:

Two (2) bags per person
Maximum weight: 23 kilograms per bag
Maximum size 200 linear centimetres*

*linear size is calculated by adding height + length + width of the bag together.

Small musical instruments can be taken aboard as hand luggage.

Large musical instruments weighing more than 7kg or classed as oversized will need to be checked in.

Bulky sporting equipment that exceeds our standard baggage allowance can also be booked separately:

Surboards
Golf clubs
Canoes
Cricket bags
Kit bags

All of our ships have bicycle racks in the vehicle decks. Rack space is limited, so we recommend booking in advance.

Let our check-in staff know you are connecting directly to the Coastal Pacific train and we'll transfer your bags to the Coastal Pacific for you in Picton.
