Interislander fleet in good condition
International maritime assurance experts Det Norske Veritas (DNV) recently assessed the condition of Aratere, Kaitaki and Kaiārahi and found the fleet to be in a better state than previously thought.
The steel hulls on each ship were found to be in particularly good condition for ships of this age.
We have a detailed asset management plan for each ship which is being folded in to our existing comprehensive maintenance programme.
This means KiwiRail can continue delivering reliable services for passengers and freight customers until the new ferries are built.
As the ships age, we will be stepping up maintenance even further to continue providing a safe and reliable service for our passengers, freight customers and crews.
