Interislander - Cook Strait Ferries

Positive Summer for Interislander

Kiwis and international visitors choosing Cook Strait’s premium passenger service saw Interislander passenger vehicle numbers bounce back to pre-Covid levels in February, says General Manager Operations Duncan Roy.

“Interislander ferries carried more than 30,000 private cars and campervans across the Cook Strait in February, as people took advantage of the excellent summer weather and enjoyed our superior on-board services.

“We have been working hard to make more space on our vehicle decks for passenger vehicles in order to meet the strong demand for our service.”

Duncan Roy says the good passenger vehicle numbers were also a reflection of the fleet’s excellent reliability and on-time performance over the busy summer season.

“Over December to February, our Interislander ferries operated with 99.6 per cent asset reliability and 91.5 per cent on-time performance.

“For comparison, these are levels exceeding even the best operators in the global aviation industry.”
